Softball Falls to Brandeis in Twinbill Sweep as DiFelice Notches 100th Career Hit

Waltham, MA --- Brandeis's Melissa Nolan (Windsor, CT) recorded four hits on the day including a homer en route to two wins for the Judges in Saturday's double header.  Nolan had two RBI in the first game helping her team to a 3-2 win.  She pitched the second game and struck out six batters for a 4-1 finish.  Brandeis improves to 19-10 and extended their winning streak to eight on their home field.  WPI falls to 7-19.

In game one, the Judges scored all three of their runs in the third inning with Nolan's home run and Danielle Novotny's (Milford, NJ) double to left center.  Casey Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) pitched all seven innings and struck out four batters.

WPI's Lauren DiFelice (Acushnet, MA) and Ali LaRue (South Glens Falls, NY) combined for four hits in game one and drove in the two Engineer runs.  Christa Coscia (Lakeville, MA) shouldered the loss with seven innings on the mound and four strikeouts.

In game two, Anya Kamber (Sammamish, WA) went four-for-four from the plate posting four singles and driving in one run.  Madison Gagnon (Westlake Village, CA) scored two runs for the Judges.  The third baseman went two-for-four and doubled in the third inning plating a run.

Jacquelyne DiTroia (Andover, MA), DiFelice, Erin Beaulieu (Bethany, CT) and LaRue each recorded a hit for WPI's four hits in game two.  DiTroia doubled in the first inning to put teammate Juliana Fekete (Belgrade, ME) in scoring position.  DiFelice reached first on a fielder's choice and Fekete scored the Engineers only run.

In her next at-bat, DiFelice singled through the left side, giving the junipr shortstop her 100th career hit.  She joins Beaulieu and Nicole McDonough (Abington, MA) as WPI players reaching the milestone this season.

Freshman Clare Doolin (Newton, MA) struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs while pitching all seven innings.

WPI returns to NEWMAC action tomorrow for a double header at Coast Guard, while Brandeis takes on Clark next week.
