Box Score Springfield, MA --- WPI men's soccer dropped a 1-0 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match at Springfield on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, WPI drops to 4-2-4 and 0-1-2 in NEWMAC play as the hosting Pride push to 2-5-2 and 1-2-0 in league action.
Despite outshooting Springfield 20-5 in shots and 9-3 in shots on target for the day, the Pride's Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, CT) took advantage of a free kick opportunity placing a ball in the right corner in the 37th minute of action that gave the host a 1-0 lead that sustained for the win.
WPI outshot the Pride 12-1 in the second half in an attempt to tie the contest as Francesco Valagussa (Arlington, MA), Anthony Previte (Andover, MA), and Luke Savoie (Mansfield, MA) combined for 13 shots on the pitch that were steered away by Springfield netminder Clayton Nibbs (Madison, CT) who posted nine saves in the victory as WPI's Roe Hendrick (Nashua, NH) collected a pair of saves in the loss.
Both teams return to action next Tuesday, October 4th at 7pm, for a non-conference matchup. The Engineers are back home at H.Carr Field for a contest versus Amherst, while Springfield is on the road to face off against Endicott.
