New London, CT --- The WPI women's cross country team finished 16th overall, racing at Connecticut College's Caroline Grape '22 Memorial Blue Race on Saturday. 

The Engineers, ranked #34 nationally and fourth in the East Region, toed the line against a massively talented field, with all 22 teams competing regionally ranked in the latest USTFCCCA Poll. The field also included 10 nationally ranked squads, including event champion #6 MIT. #14 St. Olaf finished second, while #16 Williams, #8 Amherst, and #19 Bates rounded out the top five. 

Senior Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA) and junior Sarah Ossing (Catonsville, MD) led the Engineers, placing 76th and 77th out of 308 finishers. Hadley recorded a time of 23:18.50, while Ossing crossed right after, going 23:18.70 on the 6,000-meter course. 

Senior Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) was next across the line in 86th place in a time of 23:26.60, while junior Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) and graduate student Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) also nabbed scoring finishes for the Crimson and Gray. Guilfoyle was 100th in a time of 23:35.60 with Kokernak taking 112th in 23:44.60.

Senior Lora Dufresne (Sutton, MA) and freshman Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) rounded out the WPI runners in the top half of the field, taking 128th and 171st, respectively. Dufresne crossed in 23:56.50, while Reynolds finished in 24:02.70.

Up next for WPI is the 2022 NEWMAC Championships on Sunday, October 30. The event is being hosted by Wheaton College, beginning at 11am at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, MA.

Results
