Box Score WORCESTER -- The WPI men's soccer team fell in a mid-week match against D3Soccer.com No. 10 Amherst on Tuesday night at H.Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.
Amherst (6-1-3, and ranked 5th in the United Soccer Coaches Regional I Rankings) netted the lone goal of the game in the second half, en route to the victory as Bernie White (Austin, TX) finished with his third shutout of the season.
WPI (4-3-4, 4th in Region II) finished with seven shots on the night as Luke Savoie (Mansfield, MA), Aaron Vaz (Medford, MA) and Francesco Valagussa (Arlington, MA) each ended the night with two shots, one on goal.
Fynn Hayton-Ruffner (Albany, CA) netted the lone goal of the evening, his sixth of the season for the victory. Off of a cross from Micah Valadez Bush (Laguna Hills, CA), Hayton-Ruffner headed in to the top of the net for the score in the 57th minute of action.
Roe Hendrick (Longmeadow, MA) faced four shots on goal on the night, finishing with three saves.
The Engineers are back in action on Saturday, October 8 when they continue their home stand with Clark at 1pm while the Mammoths will be back in action on the same day at 2:30pm when they play host to Wesleyan.
