WORCESTER --- WPI Women's soccer fell 1-0 to Emerson in a conference match on a chilly Wednesday night at H. Carr Field.
After today's loss, WPI drops to 6-7-4 overall and 2-4-4 in conference play and Emerson advances to 9-5-2 and 7-1-2 in NEWMAC competition.
The Engineers registered three shots in the opening 20 minutes of action started with a header by
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) that was wide right and a strike by
Olivia Toolin (Bedford, NH) that was just off target before
Madisyn Bagby (Aurora, CO) accounted the only shot on frame in the first half for the Crimson and Gray that was steered away by Emerson's
Amara Schaub(Torrance, CA) to keep the game scoreless into the break.
Steckley kicked off the second stanza of action with another header that was high before the visiting Lions'
Gina Lukoskie(Mechanicsburg, PA) connected with
Alianna West-Rodrigues (Walkoloa, HI) who drove home the lone goal and game winner of the evening.
The Crimson and Gray turn to Mount Holyoke for their regular season finale in hopes of clinching a spot in the NEWMAC tournament, the contest is scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday in South Hadley. Emerson will host nationally-ranked MIT in its regular season closer also on Saturday at 1pm.
