Field Hockey Drops Season Opener at Roger Williams

Bristol, RI -- The WPI field hockey team fell 5-0 on the road to Roger Williams in both teams' season openers on Friday night. 
 
The Hawks held WPI to just four shots, all coming in the fourth quarter, while racking up 17 shots of their own. Chelsea King (Schenectady, NY) scored a pair of goals to lead RWU's effort, while Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, NY) notched a goal and an assist in the contest. Kailey Daddona (Merrimack, NH) and Maddy Monahan (Bristol, NH) also scored for the Hawks. 
 
Roger Williams' Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, MA) and Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, MD) split time in the cage with Haudenshield making a pair of saves. 
 
For WPI, Ella Moreau (Huntington, MA) made 10 saves on the night, while the Engineers' offense was limited to shots on goal from Abby Powers (Halifax, MA) and Eliza Dutson (Woodstock, CT). 
 
The hosts broke a scoreless tie with a pair of goals less than 30 seconds apart midway through the first quarter. King scored the first of the game at 4:27 while Daddona followed it up by converting a corner at the 4:56 mark. 
 
In the second quarter, Monahan pushed the score to 3-0 with a solo goal in the 24th minute.
 
After the break, King scored her second of the day just 25 seconds into the third quarter to make it 4-0. Timbrouck then added her first score of the season in the fourth quarter to set the final to 5-0. 
 
WPI continues the season on Tuesday with a 6:3pm match-up at Wesleyan. The Hawks face the second of three-straight NEWMAC opponents tomorrow with a 3pm game against Mount Holyoke.
