Moreau Continues Strong Start to 2023 but Field Hockey Falls to Wesleyan

Middletown, CT --- Wesleyan had a trio of players notch unassisted goals as the Cardinals opened their 2023 season with a 3-0 shutout of visiting WPI in a non-conference field hockey contest played on Tuesday evening.  Wesleyan is 1-0 on the season while the Engineers dip to 0-2 in 2023.

Annabel Cincotta (Lexington, MA) collected the only goal of the first half when she knocked home the game winner with just 2:05 remaining in the first quarter.  The hosts held a 10-3 edge in shots in the first half (6-1 on goal) and attempted three of the half's five penalty corners.

The Cardinals added a goal to their tally in both the third and fourth quarters.  Kenzie Mauro (Scarsdale, NY) dented the scoring column 5:30 into the third quarter before
Sydney Cameron (East Norriton, PA) closed out the contest with a marker with 10:18 remaining.

Audrey Pace (Los Gatos, CA) and Athena Vadnal (Shaker Heights, OH) both made a save splitting time in net for the hosts with Pace picking up the victory.  Ella Moreau (Huntington, MA) continued her strong season in goal for WPI, tallying nine stops, one short of her career high of 10 set Friday in the Crimson and Gray's season opener at Roger Williams.

For the game, the hosts held a 19-7 advantage in shots and a slight 9-7 edge in penalty corners.  Abbey Powers (Halifax, MA) and Eliza Dutson (Woodstock, CT) the Engineers with two shots each (one each on target) while Emily Sollecito (Bedford, MA), Arie Lang (West Hartford, CT) and Leah Uglevich (Maynard, MA) all mustered shots for the guests.
