WORCESTER – WPI women's soccer utilized two first half goals in addition to a clean sheet to help the Engineers cruise to a 3-0 victory over visiting WestConn on Wednesday night.
WPI, winners of three straight, boost to 6-4 as the Wolves drop to 2-4-4 in 2023.
Lottie McLeod (Newton, MA) notched the first tally of the game in the opening half with an unassisted strike from the left side of the pitch to the backside of the net at 20:36.
In the 37th minute,
Josephine Conlon (Hoboken, NJ) connected with
Madison Shaw (Cheshire, CT) who poked a ball over to
Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) who snuck a low ball to the back left corner extending the lead to a pair of goals heading into the intermission.
At 76:26,
Jess English (Ledyard, CT) tossed a ball over the near defender's head helping
Delaney Mohl (Hopewell Junction, NY) beat the backline and place a ball right over the stretching
Gracen Regan (Monroe Township, NJ) into the top right corner for the final marker of the evening.
The Boynton Hillers enjoyed a 29-16 advantage in shots over the Wolves.
Myah Croze (Bristol, CT) led the visitors with five shots on the night.
Defensively,
Lili Hellerman (Ashland, MA) posted her third-straight shutout, fourth clean sheet of the season and sixth of her career after compiling six saves tonight for the Crimson and Gray. WestConn's Regan recorded five saves on eight shots faced for the evening.
The Engineers return to NEWMAC action with a trip to Northampton to take on Smith this Saturday, September 30 scheduled for a 1 pm start. The Wolves head back to Danbury to host Plymouth State in LEC play on Saturday at 10 am.
