Waterford, CT --- The WPI men's cross country team placed 11th overall in a deep and talented field at the 8k Connecticut College Invitational at Harkness Memorial State Park on Saturday.
Graduate student
Avi Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) led the team with another standout performance, finishing 10th overall with a time of 24:28.3, navigating a field of 269 runners.
As a team, the Engineers placed 11th out of 35 squads, amassing 346 points. #11 NYU won the event with 75 points, followed by St. Olaf (90 points) and #21 Williams (123 points). #19 Amherst (129 points) and #17 Middlebury (151 points) rounded out the top five in the meet, which starred eight nationally and 18 regionally ranked teams.
After Bissoondial, senior
Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH) was the second team member to cross the finish line, placing 70th with a time of 25:37.1. Classmate
Benjamin Trantanella (Westford, MA) followed closely behind, securing 77th place with a time of 25:45.5.
First-year
Drew O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY) 97th overall in 26:02.0, while junior
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) placed 106th with a time of 26:05.1 to wrap up the scorers for the Engineers.
Also competing for WPI in the premiere blue race, junior
Thomas Skerry (Dedham, MA) finished 125th in 26:20.1, senior
Sean Corman (Waterford, CT), placed 162nd with a time of 26:53.8, and first-year
Jackson Sobelman (Redding, CT), crossed the line in 208th place with a time of 27:37.2.
In the white race, the Engineers placed ninth overall. Sophomore
Ryan Coceano (Cinnaminson, NJ) crossed the finish line in 26:36.80 to secure 53rd place of 272 runners to lead WPI. Freshman
Colin Britner (Hampton, CT) was the second WPI runner to cross, clocking in at 26:44.60 to take 58th place, while freshman
Calvin Allaband-Gamble (Chicago, IL) took 59th place with a time of 26:45.00.
Wrapping up the white race scorers, junior
Nathan Barry (Newburyport, MA) posted a time of 26:46.00, finishing in 61st place, with freshman
Alden Betterley (Bow, NH) finishing 90th in 27:11.90.
The Engineers are back in action on Saturday, November 2, at the 2024 NEWMAC Championships. Wellesley College is hosting the event at Nehoiden Golf Club beginning at noon.
