Men’s Basketball’s Adams and Sevilla Named NABC Division III All-District, Adams Doubles Up with Honors from D3hoops.com

WORCESTER --- WPI men's basketball seniors John Adams (Douglas, MA) and Donovan Sevilla (San Ramon, CA) collected regional praise by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Adams claimed All-Region 2 first team honors from D3hoops.com. 
 
The 2023-2024 NABC Division III All-District Teams and District Coaches of the Year are voted upon by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division III. D3hoops.com honorees were nominated by the Sports Information Directors at various institutions. 
 
Adams, the 2023-2024 NEWMAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year, was listed to the All-NEWMAC first team for the third straight season. The senior forward paced the Engineers in scoring and rebounding columns as he averaged a double-double of 14.5 points and 11.3 boards per outing as the feat led the conference and ranked 13th in the nation in rebounding average.  Adams racked up 15 double-doubles during the 2023-2024 campaign, which also led the NEWMAC and is currently tied for 16th in Division III. 
 
The 2023-2024 stint marks the third-consecutive season the senior tri-captain has received regional praise from the NABC with back-to-back seasons on the District 2 first team. Adams, the 2021-2022 D3hoops.comRookie of the Year, has been named to the All-Region 2 team for the second time with the Crimson and Gray. 
 
Sevilla earned his first-career nod from the NABC with a spot on the District 2 second team following the 2023-2024 season where he was crowned the NEWMAC Men's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Year. Defensively, the fellow senior captain helped lead the Crimson and Gray to its 12th overall regular season crown for the top seed in the NEWMAC tournament. Sevilla was often tasked with guarding the opponent's top scorer and racked up 29 steals, 25 of which came in NEWMAC play. The San Ramon native is also second on the WPI squad in scoring at 13.9 points per game in conference play, including a team-best 35 3-pointers.
 
D3hoops.com honorees are players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and schools and conferences were each contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 812 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region. 
 
Players from these lists are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams. The teams will be released March 16, at the national championship game.
 
WPI finished 21-5 overall with a 14-2 mark in conference play en route to clinching the program's 12th regular season crown and earning the top seed in the NEWMAC Men's Basketball tournament. The Crimson and Gray finished third in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Region II rankings.
