WORCESTER --- WPI Women's Basketball coach
Cherise Galasso recently announced the addition of
Armando Dunn as the program's full-time assistant coach ahead of the 2024-2025 season.
"Armando has hit the ground running and is already making a positive impact. His extensive experience recruiting high academic student-athletes and his knowledge of the game are tremendous assets. Whether it's player development, film breakdown, or academic support, Armando's commitment to excellence in all areas will undoubtedly elevate our program to new heights," Galasso stated.
Dunn comes to WPI from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, where he served as an assistant coach for the Raptors for four seasons before earning a promotion to be the associate head coach for the program in December of 2023.
"It is a privilege and an honor to be part of the WPI family and the Women's Basketball program. Coach Galasso and the Director of PERA, Dana Harmon, truly embody my values as a person and an aspiring young professional in coaching. I appreciate them, Coach
Maegan Cook, and the team leadership council for believing in me," stated Dunn.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Bard, Dunn held duties as an Assistant Sports Information Director, Residence Life Administrator and Program/Marketing Coordinator for Student Activities.
Prior to coaching, Dunn was a four-year student-athlete at Bard as a part of the men's basketball program where he served as a forward for the Raptors. The Queens Village product was named captain for his senior campaign in 2018-19 where he posted his best season for Bard averaging 12 points and 7.3 rebounds a game. Dunn completed his career with 734 points, 500 boards, 92 steals and 75 blocks in 78 appearances and 65 starts during his tenure in Annadale-on-Hudson.
Galasso added, "Furthermore, he is a relationship builder and cares about the student-athlete experience, aligning well with our values. We are excited for what's next with him on board!"
"I want to continue to improve an already established program that has excelled on and off the court. I am thrilled to connect with the rest of our women's basketball student-athletes, and the community in Worcester," concluded Dunn. "I want to also give thanks to my amazing mentors: Cassandra Donelan (Former HC WBB at Bard), Jessica Turner (HC WBB at Skidmore), and Bradley Alexander (HC WBB at Sarah Lawrence)".
Off the court, Dunn served as the Men's Basketball representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and graduated in May of 2019 with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
