Wellesley, MA --- Graduate student
Avi Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) led the WPI men's cross country team to a clean sweep at the Wellesley Invitational 5K on Friday, opening the season with a perfect 15-point score.
Bissoondial won the race in a course record 15:42 and the Engineers occupied the top 10 finishing spots at the 66-runner event, as the team out-paced second place Coast Guard's 60 points. Springfield took third with 68, followed by Clark (124) and Salve Regina (138). His record-setting time was 17 quicker that former teammate
David Reynolds previous standard (15:59.7) set back in 2021.
Junior
Brinson Wyche (Corvallis, MT) was second in 15:55, while senior
Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH) took third place in 15:59 Running in his first event at WPI, graduate student
Ben Trantanella (Westford, MA) took fourth place in 16:05, while sophomore
Craig Salois (Hopkinton, MA) rounded out the top-five with a time of 16:08.
Rookies
Calvin Allaband-Gamble (Chicago, IL) and
Drew O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY) made the most of their collegiate debuts, taking sixth and seventh place, respectively. Allaband-Gamble finished in 16:09 and O'Reilly clocked in at 16:16.
Wrapping up the top ten, senior
Sean Corman (Waterford, CT) was eighth in 16:05, graduate student
Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME) took ninth in 16:18, and freshman
Jackson Sobelman (Redding, CT) also had a solid debut, taking 10th in 16:24.
The Engineers return to action on Saturday, September 21 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The race will begin at 10:30am.
