WORCESTER -- Nationally-ranked WPI received goals from
Evan Haas (Concord, NH),
Filippo Marcantoni (Ponti sul Mincio, Italy) and
Alejandro Clermont-Delgado (San Francisco, CA) as the Engineers remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 shutout over visiting Dean in a non-conference men's soccer matchup played Wednesday evening.
The Crimson and Gray, who are ranked 12th in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division Top 25 and first in Region II, are now 5-0 on the season and have an unbeaten streak of 18 matches (13-0-5) dating back to September of 2023. Dean falls to 1-2 on the season with the loss.
Early into the game,
Fabio Bastida-Andreeu (Logrono, Spain) popped the ball to Haas, who settled and shot through defenders for his second goal of the season at 3:11. At 32:20,
Tora Ito (Hopkinton, MA) dished the ball off to
Filippo Marcantoni (Ponti sul Mincio, Italy) inside the box and the senior drilled it home for a 2-0 WPI advantage that the hosts would take into the locker room at the break.
Just after halftime, Clermont-Delgado (San Francisco, CA) rocketed a free kick in from just outside the 18 yard mark to tally his first career goal at 51:23.
WPI's
Savio Ketnouvong (Paxton, MA) earned the shutout in net in his collegiate debut. The rookie was called upon to make two saves on the night.
Jake Godwin (Norwalk, CT) solid in net for the Bulldogs, collecting 10 stops overall.
As a team the Engineers attempted 30 of the match's 33 shots and eight of the nine corner kicks earned.
Nate Beturne (Ellington, CT) and
Jake Richard (Townsend, MA) both recorded shots on goal for the visitors while
Bryce King (Athol, MA) also mustered a shot in the contest.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday at noon. WPI heads to Beverly for a meeting with Endicott while Dean opens up GNAC play by entertaining Saint Joseph's (ME).
