Powers, Wolf, Meinhold Send Field Hockey to Homecoming Game Triumph Over Clark

WORCESTER -- The trio of Abbey Powers (Halifax, MA), Alexandra Wolf (Clinton, CT) and Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, MA) all recorded goals to help WPI cap a successful Homecoming on H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium by defeating visiting Clark 3-0 in a NEWMAC field hockey contest played late Saturday afternoon.

The Engineers move to 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference action while the Cougars drop to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in NEWMAC play.

Prior to today's game, WPI and Clark joined in raising awareness to support Athlete Ally an organization that commits to ending homophobia and transphobia in sports by empowering athletes and organizations to use their leadership in championing LGBTQI+ equality! The game appeared destined for a scoreless first half until WPI's Arie Lang (West Hartford, CT) passed a ball in the 28th minute inside the circle to Powers, whose first shot was saved by Clark goalkeeper Rachel Reiter (Millburn, NJ).  Powers secured the rebound and tapped the ball in for her second marker of the year.

In the waning seconds of the third quarter, Powers traveled down the left side of the field and crossed to Wolf inside the circle. The senior slammed the ball past the Clark goalie for her second goal of the season at 44:53.

The Boynton Hillers closed out the scoring just less than five minutes into the final stanza.  Off an insertion by Eliza Dutson (Woodstock, CT), Meinhold launched a laser from the top of the arc that bounced past the Clark defenders into net for her third goal of the year at 49:40.

WPI held an advantage in shots, 26-4, and corners, 12-3. Eve Martineau (Greene, ME) and Powers shined for the Engineers, each registering seven shots during the game. For Clark, Alison Kopec (Redding, CT) garnered a pair of shots on goal.

WPI split the halves in net between Ella Moreau (Huntington, MA) and Myles Lakin (Reading, MA). Moreau played the opening 30 minutes, while Lakin took over for the second half, and was credited with a career-best four saves. Reiter was stellar in net for the Cougars, turning away 12 shots, also a career-high.

WPI hosts NEWMAC-foe #6 Babson on Tuesday at 6pm. Clark faces Mount Holyoke for its Senior Day next Saturday at 2pm.
