New London, CT ---
Leah Uglevich (Maynard, MA) notched her seventh goal of the season but it was not enough as the WPI field hockey team went on the road Tuesday evening and dropped a 3-1 decision to Connecticut College in the Crimson and Gray's final non-conference contest of the regular season.
Â
Connecticut College is now 5-6 on the season, while the Engineers dip to 9-4 overall.
Â
The opening quarter was a tale of two different quarters as the hosts took the first five shots and attempted the first four penalty corners and were rewarded for their persistence midway through the stanza when
Megan Pons (Charlotte, NC) knocked home a feed from
Elizabeth Bonner (Westfield, NJ) for the junior's first career goal at 7:22. WPI then flipped the script and uncorked the final four shots and five penalty corners of the frame, including a trio of shots by
Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, MA).
Â
The second period was more defensive-minded with only four shots total - three by the Camels - and no goals at the hosts maintained its 1-0 advantage at the intermission.Â
Â
The goalkeepers took center stage after halftime as first it was WPI's
Myles Lakin (Reading, MA) coming far out of the cage to quash a Conn College breakaway, and then it was the Camel's
Isabella Carnall (Malvern, PA), who made a diving stop on a Meinhold bid late in the third. The hosts doubled their lead in the final moments of the third quarter when
Serena Moore (Houston, TX) netted her first career goal with just 38 seconds to go in the session. Â
Â
WPI began the fourth quarter with a bang as
Leah Uglevich (Maynard, MA) found the back of the net off an
Abbey Powers (Halifax, MA) pass just 28 seconds into the final 15 minutes. It was the senior's seventh goal of 2025 and 11th of her career. The Engineers continued to push for the equalizer, pulling the goalkeeper with 4:30 remaining but were forced to defend consecutive penalty corners with less than two minutes to go and the hosts cashed in on the second one whenÂ
Bridget McGann (West Hartford, CT) went top shelf to put the Camels ahead 3-1 with just 90 seconds left to secure the triumph. Â
Â
Both goalies excelled on the night, recording eight stops each. Conn College finished with a 17-13 edge in shots and both squads attempted 10 corners.  Meinhold paced all players with six shots and was joined with multiple shots by Powers.
Â
WPI now has four NEWMAC contests to conclude the 2025 regular season, beginning on Saturday with a noon trip to Newport, RI to face Salve Regina. Conn College returns to NESCAC play the same day, entertaining No. 6 Bates at 11am.
