Josh Castro-New England Football Writers-All-New England-WPI Football-2025

Football’s Castro Named to New England Football Writers Association 2025 All-New England Team

New England Football Writers Association - All-New England Team - Josh Castro
WORCESTER --- WPI graduate student Josh Castro (Pittsburgh, PA) has been selected to the prestigious New England Football Writers (NEFW) 2025 College Division All-New England Team for his standout performance as a punter this fall. The College Division encompasses all Division II and III college football programs in the region. The team, selected by a committee of media relations representatives from the six conferences, honors the best Division II and III players by position in New England from the 2025 season.

Castro's honor follows a breakout campaign in which he earned two postseason citations from the NEWMAC, All-Conference First Team as a punter and Second Team as a wide receiver, marking the first all-conference accolades of his career.

A true multi-tool contributor, Castro headlined the Engineers' special teams unit with one of the finest punting seasons in program history as he totaled 2,675 yards on the year and averaged an impressive 44.6 yards per punt, highlighted by a school-record and career-long 94-yard punt. The graduate student delivered 20 punts of 50+ yards, dropped 22 attempts inside the 20-yard line, and forced seven touchbacks and seven fair catches across nine games.

Castro was equally impactful on offense, showcasing dynamic versatility with 36 receptions for 435 yards, including a season-long 38-yard grab and a 110-yard, one-touchdown performance in WPI's 15-13 road win at Husson. Additionally, Castro averaged 12.1 yards per catch and added two receiving touchdowns, plus 22 yards on the ground for the Crimson and Gray.

This year's NEFW selection marks WPI's latest recognition from the association, following Gavin Chieff '25 in 2024 and Loren Diloreto '23 after the 2022 season. It is the tenth time a member of the Crimson and Gray has earned the distinction under 15th-year head coach Chris Robertson. Other recent honorees include Sean McAllen (2017, 2019), Vince Lucca (2019), Brian Murtagh (2014, 2016), John Perron (2011), and Tyler Lapierre (2010).

The All-New England honorees will be celebrated at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 11, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center. Reservations must be completed online at the NEFW website no later than Friday, December 5 at 4pm. Tickets are $75 per person, non-refundable.
