Dudley, MA --- The WPI baseball team pounded out 15 hits overall and amassed eight runs over the two innings but could not overcome 11 runs scored by Nichols in the middle three innings as the host Bison defeated the Engineers 18-13 in a non-conference contest on Monday afternoon.
The game was the second time the two teams have played each other this spring as WPI defeated the Bison the 11-2 a week and a half ago at the New England Baseball Complex. The Crimson and Gray slip to 11-16 overall while Nichols moves to 14-11 on the season.
Liam Keblin (Newton, MA) paced the WPI offense with a three-hit day (3-for-4, and two runs) while
Camden Willems (The Woodlands, TX) drove in three runs, including a key bases loaded single.
Matt Shea (Andover, MA) added two hits, scored a pair of runs, and drove in two more while drawing a pair of walks.
D.C. Brown (Plymouth, MA),
Max Robison (Wrentham, MA) and
Luke Frauton (Medway, MA) all notched two hits for the Boynton Hillers.
Anthony Hackert (Danbury, CT) was a perfect 4-4 for Nichols with an RBI and three runs scored.
Ben Jerome (Waterford, CT) batted 3-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, while
Liam Flynn (Charlestown, RI) also added three hits (3-5) with two RBI.
Karl Miller (Sandy Hook, CT),
Stanley Cipkas (Marlborough, CT),
Adam Pivacek (Tolland, CT) and
Collin Harty (Whitinsville, MA) all homered in the game for the Bison.
Pat Doyle (Lagrangeville, NY) earned the win to move to 3-0 on the season for the Bison. The senior threw 4.2 innings in relief and recorded four strikeouts. Starter
Alex Hee (Walpole, MA) went 3.2 innings for WPI and shouldered the loss for the visitors.
Axel Foss (Sandwich, MA) tossed a perfect inning of relief for the Engineers.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday at 3:30pm. WPI tangles with Emerson at the New England Baseball Complex in a NEWMAC tilt while Nichols ventures to Hartford to face Trinity in a non-conference affair.
