Northboro, MA --- A nine-run fourth inning proved too much to overcome as WPI fell to Tufts, 15-6, on Wednesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex. The Jumbos improved to 15-19 with the win, while the Engineers dropped to 14-23. The contest also marked Senior Day for the Engineers, who honored

Gavin George (Salem, NH),
Eric DePiero (Beverly, MA),
Andrew Cash (Marlboro, MA), and
Gage Nagy (Monroe, WA) before first pitch.
WPI's offense was led by

Jacob Wiberg (Exeter, NH) added a hit and two RBIs.
On the mound,

WPI opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. After George reached on an error and Burns singled, a walk to Cash loaded the bases. Lattimer drew a walk to bring in the first run, and DiMichele followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
In the third, Cash singled with one out and moved into scoring position before DiMichele knocked him in with an RBI single to left, stretching the WPI lead to 3-0.
The fourth inning was the difference maker, as Tufts' offense took over. The Jumbos sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine runs on five hits, four walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a WPI error. Leonard crushed a three-run homer as part of the rally, while Fleischer and Mccullough each added RBI knocks.
Tufts padded its lead in the sixth with two more runs, then added two apiece in the eighth and ninth. Leonard's second homer of the day came in the eighth inning, pushing the lead to double digits.
Down 15-3 entering the ninth, WPI mounted a final push. Burns led off with a single, and Lattimer followed with a base hit. After Cash reached on a fielder's choice, DiMichele ripped a two-run single to left. Walks by
Chuck Cappello (Southboro, MA) and
Liam Keblin (Newton, MA) loaded the bases, and the Engineers added a third run in the frame on a fielder's choice by Keblin, capping the scoring at 15-6.
