Richmond, VA --- The WPI men's and women's swimming & diving programs continue to shine in the classroom as well as in the pool, collecting prestigious Spring Scholar All-America Team awards from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). Additionally, three Engineers earned spots on the CSCAA Spring Individual Scholar All-America Second Team for the 2024-25 season. Junior

Tom Fitzgerald (East Longmeadow, MA) and senior
Val Corrente (East Setauket, NY) represented the diving group with individual Scholar All-America honors from the CSCAA.
Under the direction of head coach Paul Bennett, both WPI squads maintained strong academic performances this spring. The women's team compiled a 3.61 team grade-point average (GPA) while the men's team posted a 3.65 GPA, comfortably surpassing the CSCAA's minimum GPA requirement of 3.00 for Scholar All-America status. In total, 763 teams representing 432 institutions and over 18,400 student-athletes were recognized for their commitment to academic excellence.
Individually, Yurista represented the women's team as Fitzgerald and Corrente represented the men's program in the CSCAA Spring Individual Scholar All-America Second Team individual honors.
Yurista, a Biomedical Engineering major carrying a perfect 4.00 GPA, secured her second consecutive Scholar All-America honor after qualifying for the NCAA Division III Region 3 Diving Championships for the second year in a row. She also repeated as a CSC Academic All-District and NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selection this season while placing seventh in both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the NEWMAC Championships.
On the men's side, Fitzgerald, a Computer Science major, capped an impressive freshman campaign with his first Scholar All-America nod by virtue of qualifying for the NCAA Division III diving regionals. Corrente, who graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering and carried a 3.89 GPA, concluded his collegiate career with his first Scholar All-America accolade and a second consecutive trip to the NCAA regional meet. The senior is also a three-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree and earned his first CSC Academic All-District award this spring.
To qualify for the CSCAA Scholar All-America Second Team, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.50 or higher and achieve a "B" time standard for nationals or qualify for a diving zone meet.
The CSCAA, founded in 1922, is the nation's first organization of college swimming and diving coaches, with a mission to advance the sport through leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
