Our Summer Rewind continues on the diamond, where Andrew Cash and Tommy Burns racked up All-Region honors from both the ABCA and D3baseball.com following outstanding senior seasons. The veteran duo powered WPI's offense all spring, combining for over 75 runs and 40 extra-base hits en route to dual All-NEWMAC and All-Region selections.
WORCESTER – WPI Baseball standouts Andrew Cash (Marlboro, MA) and Tommy Burns (Morris Plains, NJ) have been recognized with a pair of prestigious All-Region awards, as both were honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com following standout 2025 seasons.
Cash was selected to the Region 1 First Team at designated hitter by both the ABCA and D3baseball.com, while Burns earned Second Team ABCA recognition and was placed on the D3baseball.com Third Team as an outfielder. Players were nominated for these awards by Sports Information Directors at their respective institutions.
The 2025 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year were announced this week across all 10 regions. The ABCA teams are voted on by member coaches and coordinated by the ABCA NCAA Division III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Cash garners his first career ABCA and D3baseball.com All-Region honors after a dominant senior season at the plate for the Engineers. The Marlboro native led the Engineers with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs across 34 games, finishing with a .361 batting average. The senior designated hitter posted a team-best .723 slugging percentage, added eight doubles and a triple, drew 18 walks, and was hit by five pitches, contributing to an impressive .455 on-base percentage.
Burns also earned his first career All-Region recognition from both organizations as the senior captain paced WPI with a .394 batting average while starting all 37 games. The veteran outfielder tallied 56 hits, including 13 doubles, two triples, and six homers for a .641 slugging percentage as he scored 43 runs, drove in 35, stole 12 bases, and reached base at a .464 clip.
Together, Cash and Burns powered WPI's offense this spring, accounting for nearly 27% of the team's total hits and over 32% of its RBIs. The duo combined for 177 total bases (33.2% of the team's total), 41 extra-base hits (41.4%), and 75 runs scored (28.3%), collecting All-NEWMAC accolades along the way.
