Our Summer Rewind heads to South Hadley for a championship-worthy performance, as WPI men's track & field captured the 2025 NEWMAC title in dominant fashion. With six individual champions, a record-breaking relay, and points pouring in across the board, the Engineers topped the podium for the first time since 2021 — and the first under head coach Emily Dippel.
South Hadley, MA --- Behind a flurry of All-Conference performances, the WPI men's track and field team captured the 2025 NEWMAC Championship on Saturday at Mount Holyoke's Kendall Sports & Dance Complex. The Engineers finished with 241 points, topping the six-team field to claim their first title since 2021 and the second in program history under Track and Field and Cross Country Brian Chabot and first for head coach Emily Dippel.
WPI crowned six individual NEWMAC champions on Saturday, starting with senior Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH), who captured the 3000m steeplechase in 9:27.12. Senior Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) sealed the team win with his second victory of the meet, running 14:42.28 to win the 5000 meters in facility-record fashion. Junior Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA) bettered his own school record in the 100 meters, sprinting to victory to cap a standout weekend.
Sophomore Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) took home top honors in the discus with a throw of 44.92m, and the 4x100m relay team of sophomore Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA), graduate-student Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT), Cole, and freshman Ethan Schnyer (Nashua, NH) broke the program record with a time of 40.94, currently ranked 15th across all of Division III, to win decisively.
Freshman Ethan Ramirez (Burlington, CT) wrapped up a breakout weekend in the decathlon, winning the overall title after turning in top-three performances in seven of the ten events. Ramirez won the discus with a toss of 32.09m and secured second in the long jump, high jump, and pole vault during the two-day event.
The Engineers added seven more All-Conference performances on day two. Freshman Colin Britner (Hampton, CT) was the runner-up in the steeplechase (9:47.00), while senior Michael Neff (West Hartford, MA) and sophomore Matt Richards (Peabody, MA) finished second and third in the javelin with throws of 57.67m and 55.99m, respectively. Junior Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) soared to second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.73m.
Freshmen Will Larsen (Chelmsford, MA) and Theo Burrell (East Haddam, CT) delivered key performances in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second and third, respectively, while freshman Colin Squier (Douglas, MA) added a sixth-place finish. Junior Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT) also impressed, placing fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.40.
The 4x400m relay team of sophomore Daniel Kim (Orange, CT), sophomore Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA), junior Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA), and D'Amour earned All-Conference honors by finishing second in 3:21.50.
In the middle-distance events, junior Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) secured third place in the 800 meters (1:53.84), with senior Brendan May (Rutland, MA) and freshman Daniel Narvaez (Wayland, MA) finishing fifth (1:57.18) and sixth (1:58.15), respectively. Freshman Alden Betterley (Bow, NH) scored in the 1500 meters, placing sixth in 4:04.09.
Other scorers on the final day included freshman Drew O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY), who placed fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 9:47.96, and graduate-student Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME), who took fifth in 9:56.52. Senior Ben Furman (Groton, MA) and senior Lucas Anthony (Lincoln, MA) added points in the javelin, throwing 53.53m and 52.00m, respectively.
Senior Michael Neff (West Hartford, MA) also scored in the discus with a sixth-place finish, while sophomore Michael Zuo (Worcester, MA) contributed points in both the discus and shot put, finishing sixth in each event. Freshman John Cummings (Dallas, PA) took eighth in the shot put. Senior Matthew Catuccio (Trumbull, CT) placed fifth in the high jump by clearing 1.85m, and senior Jack Adiletta (Bolton, MA) finished eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.41m.
WPI led wire-to-wire after taking the team lead on Friday and extended their advantage across the second day to finish with 241 points, ahead of MIT (196) and Springfield (125). Coast Guard placed fourth with 87 points, followed by Babson (79) and Wheaton (78).
The Engineers now turn their attention to the 2025 New England Division III Championships, hosted by Coast Guard on May 2-3 in New London, CT, where qualified student-athletes will compete.
