WORCESTER -- Four different WPI players registered goals and three others doled assists as the Engineers rallied from an early deficit to pull away from Western New England in the Crimson and Gray's home opener early Saturday afternoon on H. Carr Field at Alumni Stadium.

The victory improves WPI to 3-1 on the season while the Golden Bears dropped their first decision of 2025 and now sit at 2-1.

It was the visitors from Western New England who notched the only goal of the first period that was wide open with 11 total shots (WPI 6-5) when then were awarded a penalty stroke for a WPI infraction in the circle just 3:46 into the contest. Â
Haley Kaczka (Granby, CT) successfully converted the stroke for her second goal of the season to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 edge after the first period.

The second stanza belonged to the hosts as the Engineers outshot WNE 7-1 and produced both the tying and game-winning tallies. Graduate student
Lauren Meinhold (Boxboro, MA) evened things at 19:48 when she knocked home a rebound of her own shot while
Emma Barton (Hopewell Junction, NY) put WPI ahead following a penalty corner that featured assists from
Madeline Chase (Danvers, MA) ,
Arie Lang (West Hartford, CT) ) with just 20 seconds to go before halftime.

WPI extended its lead late in the third quarter when
Abbey Powers (Halifax, MA) sent a backhanded chip into top left corner of the net at 42:28.  The Golden Bears looked to get it back to a one goal margin when they were award a second stroke three minutes into the fourth quarter but the bid sailed just right.  The Engineers netted an insurance marker with 6:28 remaining as
Leah Uglevich (Maynard, MA) knocked a feed from
Kyra Duane (Marlboro, MA).

Myles Lakin (Reading, MA) was credited with a pair of stops in net en route to earning the victory for the hosts while
Alex Tardugno (Methuen, MA) bagged three saves for the Golden Bears. The Engineers ended the game with a 20-10 edge in shots and a 12-9 bulge in penalty corners.

WPI heads to Amherst for its next contest, squaring off with the Mammoths on Wednesday at 6:30pm while Western New England entertains Smith on Tuesday at 6pm.
