Amber Jacobs-WPI Women's Swimming & Diving-2025-2026

Jacobs and Kang Help Women’s Swimming and Diving Bounce Back and Defeat Wheaton

Amber Jacobs
Norton, MA --- The Engineers of WPI squared off against NEWMAC women's swimming and diving rival Wheaton on Tuesday the 20th of January for their last dual meet of the season, emerging victorious with a scoreline of 186.5-91.5.

Jacobs kicked things off with a season-best time in the 1000 free as she hit the wall in first at 11:03.44. While just the first individual race of the evening, the event was one of the races of the meet, as the first-year was locked in a duel with Wheaton senior Vivian Van Holland. The pair flipped at the 200 mark in an equal 2:10.55, with the Lyon taking a slight lead over the next 200 until Jacobs reeled her and remained neck-and-neck until Jacobs picked things up in the last 50 to win by .41. Collecting valuable points behind her were fellow distance stalwarts Allie Marvell (Manchester, NH) and Julia Gathy (Waterford, CT) who went 11:03.89 and 11:49.10 respectively.

The Iowa native next returned to the pool to square off against Van Holland again in the 500. Jacobs lagged a little in the opening stages, opening in 2:09.98 as compared to Van Holland's 2:08.40, with Jacob's teammate Kate Creusere (Las Cruces, NM) sitting between the pair at 2:08.68. Jacobs, however, quickly reeled the pair in and by the 400 had passed Creusere and was within.1 of the leading Lyon. Over the next 50 she earned her first lead of the event and closing in the lone sub-31 split, Jacobs took the win 5:25.11 to 5:25.59.

She rounded out her evening in the 400 IM, where, unlike in the 1000 or 500, Jacobs never trailed as she had the fastest first 50 split and then looked back, cruising to the win in 4:55.83. Behind her, however, was a tight battle as first-year Jasmine Lam (Dracut, MA) tied for 2nd place with Wheaton's Lauren Bullins at an identical 5:00.07.

Kang earned her three wins in the 100 back, 200 back, and 100 fly as she, for the 2nd time in as many weeks, swept all of her individual events. The 100s back and fly were very impressive performances by the Engineers, as led by Kang's 1:00.88 and 1:00.26, respectively, the 2nd and 3rd place results were also occupied by the Engineers.

All told, the team won an impressive 11 events, with the wins being shared around as Creusere, who was 2nd in the 200 and 3rd in the 500, claiming the win in the 200 fly, an event which was directly followed by a 1-2-3-4 showing in the 50 free, with junior Katrina Waite (Falmouth, ME) leading the way at 25.99. Waite would finish 2nd in the 100 to teammate Mallory LaPointe (St. John's, FL), the winner of the 200 free. The pair ended the day leading off the victorious 200 free relay with the quartet of LaPointe, Waite, Veronica Finucane-Tuccio (Excelsior, MN), and Sophie Robinson (Westborough, MA) posting a time of 1:43.98.

The Crimson and Gray now look ahead to this weekend's Menck Invitational.  The two-day meet commences Friday at 4pm at Roger Williams before concluding on Saturday at WPI at 11am.  The Engineers will honor their senior class as part of Senior Day festivities.
