Previte’s Early Goal Helps Men’s Soccer Battle Coast Guard to 1-1 Draw

New London, CT --- Nikolas Previte (Andover, MA) scored in the seventh minute and Savio Ketnouvong (Worcester, MA) made five saves as WPI men's soccer battled Coast Guard to a 1-1 draw Saturday morning at Nitchman Field.

The Engineers move to 0-4-5 overall and 0-0-2 in the NEWMAC, while the Bears are now 5-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.

WPI wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Previte found the back of the net at 6:38 to give the Crimson and Gray an early 1-0 advantage. The Engineers generated four shots during the opening 45 minutes and earned four corner kicks, while Ketnouvong turned aside two Coast Guard attempts to preserve the lead heading into halftime.

The Bears pulled even at 63:46 when Jake Fish (Little Silver, NJ) scored to make it a 1-1 contest. Coast Guard generated 11 shots and six corner kicks during the second half, but Ketnouvong came up with three additional saves to keep the Engineers level. WPI registered six second-half shots, including attempts by Adin Pezo (Everett, MA) and Michael Montabana (Jamison, PA), with Samuel Linkous (Gulf Breeze, FL) stopping Montabana's shot in the 62nd minute.

Ketnouvong finished with five saves for the Engineers, including two in the first half and three after halftime, while Linkous recorded two saves, both in the second half.

Coast Guard finished with a 19-10 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal, while the Bears also held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Previte led WPI with three shots, including two on target, while Montabana also recorded three shots and one on goal. Pezo added two attempts. Jack Lopez (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) paced the Bears with three shots, including two on target, while Andres Villasana (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) added four attempts.
