Myrtle Beach, SC --- The WPI baseball team scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Engineers defeated Rivier, 12-2, on Monday evening at Ebbets Field as part of the Myrtle Beach Spring Break Tournament. WPI improves to 3-0 on the season, while Rivier falls to 0-3.

Camden Willems (The Woodlands, TX) led the Engineers with four hits and two runs scored, while
Liam Keblin (Newton, MA) drove in four runs with a pair of doubles.
Chuck Cappello (Southboro, MA) added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, and
Greyson Baldizar (Seekonk, MA) chipped in a two-run double.
Jack Zawacki (Pittsford, NY) recorded a hit and scored a run, while
Miles Pratt (Hampton, NH) and
Matt Shea (Salem, NH) each drove in a run.

Jacob Wiberg (Exeter, NH) earned the win for WPI, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing four hits and striking out seven.
Daniel Lynn (Severna Park, MD) allowed two runs in relief, while
Damon Chase (Rye, NH) and
Lennon Richman (St. Thomas, VI) combined to hold the Raiders scoreless over the final 2.2 innings.

Rivier was paced by
Colton Colleran (Mashpee, MA) with two hits, while
Jayce Martinez (Nashua, NH) drove in a run and
Owen Medlock (Merrimack, NH) added an RBI walk. The Raiders used five pitchers in the contest, with
Sam Kalivas (Methuen, MA) providing the longest outing, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three over 3.2 innings.

WPI struck quickly in the bottom of the first inning, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs. Shea opened the scoring with an RBI groundout before Baldizar lined a two-run double down the left-field line. Cappello followed with an RBI single, Pratt added a run-scoring groundout, and Keblin capped the frame with an RBI double to center field.

The Engineers added two more runs in the third inning on a wild pitch and a passed ball to extend the lead to 8-0.

Rivier broke through in the sixth inning as Martinez delivered an RBI single and Medlock drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the deficit to 8-2.

WPI answered in the bottom of the inning when Willems scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-2. The Engineers also got defensive help, as Baldizar made a highlight-reel diving catch near the right-field line for the first out of the seventh inning to preserve the advantage.
The Crimson and Grey added three more runs in the eighth. Keblin delivered the big blow with a three-run double to center field that plated Pratt, Frauton, and
Jonathan Lattimer (Windsor, CT) to cap the scoring.

Both teams continue play at the Myrtle Beach Spring Break Tournament on Tuesday. The Engineers face Manhattanville at 9 am at Ebbets Field, while Rivier takes on Delaware Valley at 3:30 pm at Crosley Field.
