WORCESTER --- WPI men's swimming & diving student-athletes Christopher Smith (Northbridge, MA), Dean Doubek (Arnold, MD), Nolan Schlessman (Sudbury, MA), and Sean Tesoro (Reading, MA) have been selected to the 2025-26 NCAA Division III College Sports Communicators Men's Swimming & Diving Academic All-District Team.
Smith, a senior computer science major with a 3.54 GPA, secured his second consecutive Academic All-District honor following another standout campaign for the Engineers. At the 2026 NEWMAC Championships, Smith scored in three individual events, placing seventh in the 100 butterfly (49.74), while also contributing heavily in relay competition throughout the meet. Earlier in the season, he helped WPI capture the 400-medley relay at the Menck Invitational and posted the program's top time in the 100 breaststroke during the meet. Smith was also named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team for the second straight season.
Doubek, a junior aerospace engineering major carrying a 3.77 GPA, repeats as an Academic All-District selection after another successful year for the Crimson and Gray. The sprinter played a pivotal role in WPI's relay success throughout the season, including helping the Engineers place fourth in the 200-freestyle relay at the NEWMAC Championships. Individually, Doubek earned a pair of championship-final appearances at NEWMACs in the 100 butterfly, finishing eighth in 49.85, while also posting strong sprint freestyle performances throughout the year. He was additionally named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference squad.
Schlessman, a junior biomedical engineering major maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA, earns his first career Academic All-District recognition. Schlessman continued to provide key freestyle depth for WPI during the 2025-26 campaign, highlighted by anchoring relay efforts throughout the season. During the Engineers' January quad meet, he delivered the fastest split in the field during the 400-freestyle relay and captured the 100-freestyle event victory. Schlessman also garnered NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors this season.
Tesoro, a junior biomedical engineering major with a 3.57 GPA, collects Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year. Tesoro once again provided versatility for WPI across sprint and relay events, including helping the Engineers to a fourth-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay at the NEWMAC Championships. He also swam on the victorious 400 medley relay squad at the Menck Invitational and consistently contributed valuable relay points throughout the winter season. Tesoro was also selected to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team in 2026.
The men's program compiled a 9-5 dual meet record in addition to a runner-up finish at the Worcester City Championships behind NCAA DI Holy Cross and the crown for the 2025 Gompei Invitational. WPI wrapped up the 2026 NEWMAC Championships in third place with 731 points.
