Al Rasavsky, as a standout in football, basketball and baseball,
you played a key role in one of WPI's most glorious athletic eras,
for your team provided some of the most memorable performances in
WPI's history. Your individual accomplishments are a tribute to
your natural abilities and your determination.
Despite not playing high school football, you became a starter
at end for WPI and you were a major factor in the undefeated
football team of 1938. moreover your heroics on the basketball
court were unparalleled, for you earned four letters, captained the
team and made All-New England as a forward in the 1938-39 season
when WPI went 13-3 and had the best record in New England. In fact,
your team was just six points away from an undefeated season will
all three losses by a single point.
Your skill as a pitcher attracted both local and national
attention and brought professional offers from two major league
teams. Fortunately for WPI, you chose to remain in college, earning
four letters and serving as captain during the balance of your
baseball career here.
As both an undergraduate and an alumnus you have taken an active
interest in all aspects of WPI. Your quiet but firm support for
crew during the past two decades, a sport which one of your sons
founded at WPI, has been typical of your leadership and your desire
of excellence. Al Raslavsky, tonight we proudly honor you with your
induction as a charter member of the WPI Athletic Hall of Fame.
