Hank Nowick, your talent, drive and determination distinguished
you as one of the most versatile student athletes to ever wear a
WPI uniform. As a three sport star and leader, your football,
basketball, and baseball games displayed your relentless desire to
perform to the best of your ability while spearheading WPI teams to
great success.
You will always be remembered for your role as a hard-hitting
end on the 1954 undefeated football team. That team dominated
opponents its opponents and you were recognized for your superior
efforts with selection to the national All-Chemical, All-America
team. That honor was noteworthy, for your undergraduate days were
characterized by your academic dilligence and success and your
caring for those around you.
On the basketball court you were a tough, scoring guard who
captioned the team in your senior year and established a
single-game 33-point scoring record. You were also the ace pitcher
on a baseball team which had a four-year 33-10 record, the best in
WPI history. Your contribution toward that team effort was
phenomenal, as you were personally responsible for nearly one third
of the team's victories with your 10-2 lifetime record.
Your dedication to WPI and its athletic program has continued
since your graduation, for you have consistently been an active
booster, an aide to the staff and coaches and you have been
conspicuous by your professional successes with Monsanto.
Hank Nowick, tonight we proudly honor for your extraordinary
athletic achievement with your induction as a charter member of the
WPI Athletic Hall of Fame.
