Lenny Polizzotto, your outstanding contributions to WPI
wrestling together with your energetic, enthusiastic leadership and
participation in all aspects of campus life have made you one of
the best athletes ever to represent WPI.
You were a four-year member of the wrestling team and you
co-captained the team your junior and senior years. As a senior you
were undefeated in dual meets and were named WPI's most outstanding
senior athlete. You were champion in your weight class, MVP at the
1970 MIT Holiday Tournament and a three-time All-New England
Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (NEIWA) wrestler.
As a graduate student in 1971 you coached WPI's matmen to a 7-4
season, tying both the record at that time for most victories and
the all-time record for most team points (287) scored in a season.
After you were named Rookie Coach of the Year, one of your captains
said, "Lenny Polizzotto was everything anyone could possibly want
in a coach - and more."
Your other activities reflected your total commitment to WPI
life. You were president of your class and a member of both Skull
and Tau Bet Pi. You were also a member of Phi Kappa Theta
fraternity, head resident advisor, secretary of the student
government and Varsity Club tutor. You were named to Who's Who
in American Colleges and Universities and, in your spare time,
you wrote two books on drum instruction.
Leonard Polizzotto, it is with great pride that we honor you and
your achievements with your induction as a member of the WPI
Athletic Hall of Fame.
