Andrew Murch, your performances on the track and field and cross
country teams earned you a place among the most esteemed members of
the WPI athletic community.
A co-captain of both teams as a senior, you led the cross
country team to winning seasons in your sophomore, junior and
seniors years, Never did you finish lower than fifth in any race
during your last season in 1973, a year that saw WPI beat MIT and
RPI for the first time in 12 years.
In track, you set school records in the mile and two-mile
events, recording a memorable 4:12.1 one-mile time against Coast
Guard. You set the two-mile record (9:44.3) during the City
Championships. During your career you won five titles in three
different events.
For your efforts and leadership, you were a co-recipient of the
Varsity Club Award in your senior year and winner of the Leo S.
Jansson Award in you sophomore year. In addition to the time you
spent on the track and cross country teams, you were a member of
the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and volunteered as a Big Brother
for three years.
Andrew Murch, tonight we proudly honor your soaring athletic
achievements by inducting you in the WPI Athletic Hall of Fame.
