Carrie Nolet, you accomplished a rare feat in WPI athletics,
winning four varsity letters in two sports, field hockey and
softball. Your achievements on the field and the diamond also won
you recognition well beyond the campus. Your talents and enthusiasm
for both sports won you a post as an assistant field hockey and
softball coach at the University from 1990 to 1992.
During your field hockey career you amassed 207 points, a total
that ranks fifth all time in New England Division III field hockey
history. You led WPI to four straight winning seasons, including
back-to-back City Championships, an MAIAW championship, a
conference championship in 1988m and participation in the ECAC
Tournament in 1986. In 1986 and 1987, you were an All-New England
selection. In 1988, serving as team captain for your second
straight season, you were selected conference player of the year
and were a First Team regional All-American.
As a starting shortstop in softball, you were elected team
captain during the 1989 season, the same year you were named to the
All-Conference team. Your .541 batting average in 1988 still ranks
as the best single-season average for all players, and you career
.358 average is in the top five, all time. During your softball
career, you recorded some other impressive career numbers: a .555
slugging percentage, a .469 on-base percentage, and only six
strikeouts in 173 career at-bats.
Off the field, you devoted your time to your studies in
industrial engineering at WPI and enjoyed your role as a sister in
the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Having won a four-year ROTC
scholarship, you entered the military and found your way into law
enforcement with a commission as a military policewoman. For the
past six years, you've served New Hampshire as a state police
officer while serving your country as an officer in the Army
Reserve.
Carrie Nolet, for the glory and leadership you brought to the
field hockey and softball teams at WPI, it is an honor to welcome
you into the WPI Athletic Hall of Fame.
