Tom Kilkenny, you are among WPI's all-time greatest wrestlers. A
four-year letter winner, you helped set the stage for the
tremendous success the University's wrestling program has enjoyed
during the last quarter century. During your four years at WPI the
team compiled a 60-12-1 dual-meet record, and you chalked up a
number of impressive honors. You served as team captain during your
senior year. You were a four-time All-New England wrestler, and
twice reigned as champion at 142 lbs. A two-time NCAA qualifier,
you amassed a 42-3 dual-meet record with three draws during our
career.
Notes WPI wrestling coach and fellow Hall of Fame member Phil
Grebinar, "Tom was a superlative leader for our program and
continues to be a great supporter of our student-athletes. He
kept things in perspective and knew when to work hard. He was a
tremendous competitor, which he demonstrated during his freshman
year when he was knocked out during a match at the New Englands and
then came back to earn All-New England honors."
At WPI, you made a mark on and off the wrestling mat. You were a
member of Phi Kappa Theta and vice president of the Athletic
Council. You received the Varsity Club Award as the most
outstanding senior male athlete. Having graduated from WPI with a
degree in mechanical engineering, you began a successful career
that took you to IBM, where today you are solution executive
responsible for engineering sales and services for the Americas.
Despite your professional demands, you've contributed to the sport
of wrestling. You've served as an official for eight years and have
been recognized as one of the best in New England at your
avocation.
Tom Kilkenny, for your achievements in and commitment to the
sport of wrestling, we welcome you into the WPI Athletic Hall of
Fame.
