Ken Adrian, you are one of the most accomplished golfers in WPI
history. In fact, you were a "scratch" golfer in what is often
considered a golden era of golf, the 1960s. A four-year letter
winner, you led the Engineers golf teams to an amazing overall
dual-match record of 38 wins and 2 losses during the spans of 1962
to 1965. as an individual, you competed in the Small College
Division national tournament in Missouri in 1963, a year that saw
you lead your team to a perfect 11-0 record. A sophomore that year,
you also helped the team earn a second-place finish at New
Englands, while winning the tourney yourself as an individual. In
fact, you were responsible for the best score in 15 years of the
NEIGA tourney.
By the end of the 1963 season, WPI had won 22 consecutive
matches under head coach Roy Seaberg. But perfection was not an
unusual description for the WPI golf teams of that era; 1963 was
one of three unbeaten seasons for the Engineers during your
tenure:10-0 in 1962, 11-0 in 1963, and 9-0 in 1965. In 1964, the
Engineers ended the season at 8-2, but despite those losses, the
team went on to place third in the New Englands (the 1965 squad
finished third in that competition.)
You became a leader at a young age. You were named captain as a
sophomore, a distinction you kept for two more years. On campus,
you were a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. You are
currently a senior consultant for AG Consulting in San Francisco.
Ken Adrian, for the glory and leadership you brought to your
sport of golf at WPI, it is a great privilege to welcome you into
the WPI Athletic Hall of Fame.
