On a night WPI celebrates the 25th anniversary of its varsity
women's basketball team, it is most appropriate that a female
basketball player is being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Dame.
That player is you, Kimberly Fay Boucher.
From a team standpoint, your years at WPI coincided with one of
the golden eras in WPI women's basketball history. From 1982
through 1986, WPI recorded a stellar 67 wins and just 28 losses.
That included a 20-5 mark and an ECAC North Championship in your
freshman year and a third-place finish in the NCAA Division III New
England Regional Championships at Salem State in your sophomore
year.
Your name can be found throughout WPI's record books. You led
WPI in scoring with 15.7 points per game as a sophomore, 16.9
points as a junior, and 18.8 points as a senior. At the time of
your graduation, you were WPI's all-time leading scorer, with 1,478
points; today you are the third all-time leading scorer.
Your teammates and coaches still recall the night you scored 28
points in a victory over Clark during your sophomore season-and
when you followed that shortly thereafter with another 28-point
effort in the victory over Bridgewater State at the New England
Regionals. In your senior season you came through with yet another
28-point outburst in a contest with Southern Maine.
You've also left your mark in other career statistical areas:
you remain second in free-throw percentage (.731), second in steal
(207), third in scoring average (15.9 ppg), third in assists (317),
third in double-figure scoring games (77), and fourth in field
goals made (621).
You were named All-New England Honorable Mention after your
junior season and capped that off at the end of your senior season
when you were named a New England Women's Basketball Association
All-Star and an Academic All-American.
You graduated with distinction in management engineering and
went on to earn an MBA at Harvard. Today you balance your work as
vice president of e-commerce at Lycos, where you are responsible
for strategy, product development, merchandising, revenue, and
account management for electronic commerce across the Lycos
Network, with your responsibilities as a wife and a mother.
Kimberly Fay Boucher, for all of your outstanding achievements
in the classroom and on basketball courts throughout New England
and along the East Coast-especially here in Harrington
Auditorium-it is with great pleasure that we welcome you into the
WPI Athletic Hall of Fame.
