There is no doubt Susan Tarallo is one of the most highly
decorated field hockey players in WPI history. Her four years in
the early 90's represents the most successful era in the annals of
that sport at WPI.
A Shrewsbury native, Sue was a three-time All-Regional player
and a two-time All-American. As a sophomore, she was First Team
All-Regional. As a junior, she was First Team All-Regional and a
Third Team All-American. As a senior, she was once again named
First Team All-Regional, and a First Team All-American.
In Sue's career, WPI's field hockey teams finished a spectacular
70-7-2. All four years, her teams reached the NCAA Tournament. In
her freshman year, WPI placed second in the NEW-8 Tournament; in
the next three, WPI finished first.
She served as captain in 1992, a year in which the team finished
18-1 and made it far into the NCAA Tournament. In her second and
third seasons, the team finished 17-2-1.
As great as her senior year was, Sue scored a career-high and
school-record 37 goals as a junior, making her one of the nation's
scoring leaders. That WPI single-season record still stands. In her
illustrious career, she scored 78 goals and 22 assists, making her
one of WPI's all-time leaders in all scoring categories: goals,
assists, and points.
Today, Sue is a popular math and English teacher at the Dudley
(Mass.) Middle School. For all of her stellar accomplishments, it
is an honor to induct Susan Tarallo into the WPI Athletic Hall of
Fame.
