Worcester, MA --- Amy Ludlum (Mission Viejo,
CA) netted a pair of goals to help propel MIT to a 3-0 shutout of
host WPI in NEWMAC women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Ludlum, who entered the week 27th in NCAA Division III in points
per game, now has a NEWCAC-best 15 goals this season.
Liz Theurer (Gainesville, FL) got MIT on the board
just 90 seconds into the match when she received a long pass from
Andrea Staid (Lowell, MA), got past the WPI
defense and tucked it in past the goalie for her eighth goal.
Ludlum increased the lead to 2-0 when she successfully converted a
penalty kick at 21:09. She closed out the scoring at 61:09 when she
notched a goal off a feed from Katie Pesce
(Chattanooga, TN).
With the win, the MIT improves to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in conference
play. WPI falls to 5-8-1 on the season and 1-4-1 in NEWMAC action.
MIT is locked in a three-way for third place with Springfield and
Wellesley, a point back of second place Smith. WPI is tied for
seventh place with Clark. Each team has three conference matches
remaining in the regular season.
Kat Vater (Middleton, WI) made six saves for MIT
while posting her fourth shutout of the year. Elizabeth
Glasson (Worcester, MA) tallied four saves in net for
WPI.
Both teams play again on Tuesday when WPI will host Coast Guard at
7pm Tuesday and MIT plays its final regular season road match with
a date at Wellesley at 3:30pm.
