Box Score
Dudley, MA -— Meghan Pajonas (Bristol,
CT) tallied a team-high 13 points to help WPI rally for a 50-45
victory over Clark in the consolation game of the Worcester City
Tournament hosted by Nichols. With the win, the Engineers improve
to 1-1 while Clark dips to 0-2.
Emily Allietta (Sandwich, MA) canned a
three-pointer that gave WPI the lead for good at 44-43 with 4:38
remaining. The Engineers would then secure the victory by nailing
their six free throw attempts over the final three minutes. The
Crimson and Gray defense limited Clark to just one field goal in
seven tries over the last five minutes while forcing a pair of
turnovers.
The WPI bench played a key role as freshman Kaileen
Selen (Worcester, MA) notched a career-best 11 points
while sophomore Michelle Perry (Pelham, NH) hauled
in a game-high eight rebounds to go along with seven seven points.
Classmate Natasha Deschene (Presque Isle, ME)
added eight points and five rebounds for the Engineers whose bench
outscored Clark's by a 28-9 margin.
Clark quickly saw a 21-20 halftime deficit evaporate by draining
its first four field goal attempts of the second half. Sophomore
Sarah Roderigue (Oakland, ME) paced all scorers
with 16 points for the Cougars. Sophomore Sarah
Hagstrom (Yarmouth, ME) led all players with five assists
for Clark while junior Katelyn Perry (Worcester,
MA). Sophomore Catherine Hart (Grafton, MA) and
Roderigue shared team-best rebounding honors with six.
Pajonas and Clark Roderique were named to the
All-Tournament team. Rachel Odugbela (Providence,
RI) was named Tournament MVP after helping Worcester State capture
the team title with a 61-51 win over Nichols.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday. WPI hosts Daniel Webster in
its home opener at 6pm while Clark ventures to Providence to face
Johnson & Wales at 7pm.
