WPI 70, Daniel Webster 30
Worcester, MA --- WPI used a 21-0 run early in the first half to
help defeat visiting Daniel Webster 70-30 in non-conference women's
basketball action Tuesday evening. With the win, the Engineers
improve to 2-1 on the young season while DWC drops to 0-1.
After the Eagles scored the first basket of the game, WPI answered
with 21 straight points. The Engineers had six different players
score during the run that saw the Crimson and Gray connect on
8-of-12 field goal attempts.
Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA) led a balanced WPI
scoring attack with 11 points. Guards Caitlin
Macko (Cromwell, CT) and Kate Maki
(Fitchburg, MA) both added 10 points while Emily
Allietta (Sandwich, MA) tossed in nine. Meghan
Pajonas (Bristol, CT), Natasha Deschene
(Presque Isle, ME) and Rachel Salvatori
(Williston, VT) each tallied seven points for the Engineers.
Pajonas hauled in a team-high eight rebounds while Amber Dangelo
(West Kingston, RI) gobbled up seven boards. On the night the WPI
enjoyed a 43-31 advantage in rebounding.
Erin Moseley (Sterling, MA) paced all placers with 14
points, nine rebounds and four blocks for Daniel Webster.
Sarah Shea (Quincy, MA) chipped in with eight
boards (all defensive) and four points while Briana
DeSeignora (Medfield, MA) contributed five points
Both teams are off until next Tuesday at 6pm. WPI with travel to
Newton to face Mount Ida while Daniel Webster ventures to Quincy
for contest at Eastern Nazarene.
