Worcester, MA --- Meghan Pajonas (Bristol, CT)
posted game-highs of 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals to
help lead host WPI to a 50-36 non-conference victory over Emerson
on Saturday afternoon. The victory snaps a three-game losing streak
for WPI, who improves to 4-4 while Emerson drops to 4-3 on the
season.
Pajonas did a large amount of her damage in the first half as
she tallied 10 points and seven boards while helping the Engineers
take a 25-22 advantage into the locker room.
The second half featured large runs by both teams. WPI rattled
off nine of the first 12 points to open up a 34-25 lead with 15:15
remaining. Emerson answered quickly with six straight points to
slice the advantage to three at 34-31. The Engineers then did not
allow a field goal for over 10 minutes while embarking on a 14-1
run to open up a 48-34 cushion with just over three minutes
remaining.
Michelle Perry (Pelham, NH) aided the WPI
efforts with seven points and four rebounds while Caitlin
Macko (Cromwell, CT) and Emily Allietta
(Sandwich, MA) both added six points. Amber
Dangelo (West Kingston, RI), Karen Krasko
(North Branford, CT) and Kaileen Selen (Worcester,
MA) all came off the bench and grabbed five rebounds to help the
Crimson and Gray enjoy a 41-31 edge on the boards.
Maude Okrah (Rutland, MA) paced Emerson with
eight points while Lindsay DeStefano (Chepachet,
RI) chipped in with seven. Ellie Feitlinger
(Madison, WI) and Okrah shared team-best rebounding honors for the
Lions with six each.
WPI is off until Saturday, December 30th when they host Elms at
1pm in the opening round of the WPI Invitational. Emerson will
return to action this Wednesday as they entertain Endicott at 7pm.
