Worcester, MA --- Amanda Gurnon (Tolland, CT)
collected a goal and an assist in WPI's 4-0 shutout of visiting
Mount Holyoke in NEWMAC women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Engineers improve to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in
conference play. Mount Holyoke dips to 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in
NEWMAC action.
Gurnon helped stake the Crimson and Gray to a 3-0 halftime lead
when she netted the second goal at 15:11 and fed Julia
Berg (Cambridge, MA) on the third tally at 39:21.
Kelly Thompson (Pine Bush, NY) had put WPI on the
board when she found the back of the net in the eighth minute.
Jocelyn Moody (Bainbridge Island, WA) closed out
the scoring for the Engineers when she potted her third goal of the
season at 61:10. In addition to Gurnon's helper, Kris
Nigro (Bristol, CT), Ashley Maiorano
(Southampton, MA) and Meg Pasquali (Laconia, NH)
all added assists for WPI.
Elizabeth Glasson (Worcester, MA) and
Nicole DeCampo (Stoneham, MA) split time in goal
for WPI, combining for four saves. Elizabeth
Guenther (Pelham, NH) was stellar in net for Mount
Holyoke, making seven saves on the afternoon. Monica Laiu
(Germantown, MD) made perhaps the play of the match for the Lyons
when she saved a goal off the line in the second half.
WPI returns to action on Tuesday with an away contest at NEWMAC
rival Wellesley. Mount Holyoke begins a stretch of three
consecutive NEWMAC home matches on Tuesday when they entertain
Babson at 4pm.
