Rochester Defeats WPI Football 42-27

Rochester , NY --- Matt Bielecki (Ballston Lake, NY) and Clarence Onyiriuka (Painted Post, NY) ran for two touchdowns and 95 yards apiece to lead the University of Rochester to a 42-27 victory over visiting Worcester Polytechnic Institute at Edwin Fauver Stadium here.

It was the fourth straight win for the Yellowjackets (4-3 overall, 3-1 Liberty League) and the first victory at home this season. WPI lost its third straight game after a 4-0 start. The Engineers are 4-3 overall, 1-3 in the Liberty League.

Bielecki scored on runs of three yards and 20 yards. Onyiriuka took, scoring on a one-yard plunge and a three-yard run late in the second quarter to help Rochester build a 28-13 lead at the half.

The lead grew to 35-13 early in the third quarter when Adam Barrett (Avon, NY) threw a five-yard TD pass to Jay Jay Vanderstyne (Victor, NY). WPI scored two TDs in the next five minutes to draw within 35-27 with 3:51 left in the third.

Rob Pantalone (Camp Hill, PA) threw a 20-yard TD pass to George Chyoghly (West Boylston, MA) with 6:08 left to trim the deficit to 35-20. Michael Toto (Agawam, MA) recovered a fumbled snap by Barrett, setting up the Engineers at the Rochester 45. Pantalone hit Mike Butler (Athol, MA) for a 12-yard gain, then threw a 33-yard TD pass to Orry Cummings (Windham, ME) with 3:51 left.  Derek Pszybysz's (North Andover, MA) PAT made it 35-27.

After an exchange of punts, Barrett drove Rochester 67 yards in seven plays, culminating in an eight-yard TD run by Paul Ferrese (Mars, PA) with 13:04 to play (42-27).

WPI replaced Pantalone with Justin Wells (Jay, ME). A 33-yard kick return by Butler put WPI on the Rochester 45. Wells hit Cummings twice and Chyoghly once, moving the ball down to the Rochester 20. On third-and-eight from the 20, Wells found Cummings in the back of the end zone for a TD. It was nullified by a holding call.

Bielecki gained 95 yards on 15 carries, boosting his career total to 4,041 yards. Onyiriuka rushed 18 times for 95 yards. The Yellowjackets rolled up 231 yards on the ground, 208 through the air. Barrett completed 19 of 28 passes with one TD and one INT. Vanderstyne and Zach Ingoldsby (Allison Park, PA) caught six passes each.

Pantalone completed 12 of 18 passes for 148 yards and three TDs.  He was intercepted once. Wells hit 9 of 23 for 54 yards. He was intercepted three times. WPI totaled 299 yards in offense, 97 on the ground, 202 through the air. Chyoghly gained 37 yards on 14 carries. R.C. Grady (Shirley, MA) had six receptions for 64 yards and Cummings had five receptions for 69 yards.

Defensively, Chris Boudreau (Rensselaer, NY) had 12 solos tackles and two assists for WPI. Andrew Sides (Acton, MA) had 12 tackles, nine solo.

Ed Dauphin (New Hartford, MA) had eight tackles for Rochester, half a sack, and an interception.
