Box Score
Worcester, MA --- Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata,
CA) and Dalyn Houser (Atlanta, GA) notched second
half goals to help Smith rally for a 2-1 road victory over WPI in
NEWMAC conference women's soccer action on Saturday
afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 3-6-1 overall and 2-2 in NEWMAC
play while WPI slips to 6-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference
action.
WPI went ahead 1-0 in the 31st minute when Jocelyn
Moody (Bainbridge Island, WA) rocketed a 25-yard boot off
a pass from Meg Pasquali (Laconia, NH) for her
fifth goal of the year. The Engineers proved to be resourceful as
it was their only shot of the first stanza.
Smith evened the match in the 66th minute when Grover-Silva
tallied her third goal of the season following a feed off a corner
kick from Hailey Bird (Salt Lake City, UT). The
Pioneers took the lead in the 83rd minute when Houser stole the
ball at midfield, dribbled all the way into the box and then
orchestrated a nifty give-and-go with Valerie
Driscoll (Keene, NH) and put the ball into the corner of
the net for her team-leading sixth tally of the season.
Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) turned away two
shots for Smith en route to earning the victory in net for Smith.
WPI goaltender Nicole DeCampo (Stoneham, MA) made
five saves while seeing her personal and team's three-game
winning streak snapped. In the early portion of the match
Amanda Young (Goffstown, NH) helped WPI keep the
game scoreless when she cleared the ball of the line early in the
first half.
Both squads will return to action on Tuesday with NEWMAC matches
at 4pm. WPI will close out a three game homestand by hosting
cross-town rival Clark while Smith entertains Mount Holyoke.
