Bourque and Coleman Power WPI Men's Basketball to Win Over Fitchburg State

WPI Men's Basketball 105, Fitchburg State 67

Box Score

Worcester, MA --- WPI connected on nine of its first 13 3-point attempts and senior preseason All-American Antoine Coleman (Everett, MA) tallied 13 points to reach the 1,000 career point milestone as WPI defeated previously unbeaten Fitchburg State 105-67 in non-conference men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon. The Engineers are now 5-2 on the young season while FSC slips to 4-1.

Center Ryan Bourque (Nashua, NH) connected on all five of his field goal attempts, including a pair of 3-pointers, while tallying all 14 of his points in the first half.  As a team, the Engineers drained 20-of-29 (69.0%) first half attempts from the field as they took a 54-33 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.

Jim Marois (Worcester, MA) paced all scorers with 19 points while Jerome Kirkland (Boston, MA) and NT Izuchi (Boston, MA) netted 13 and 12 points respectively for the Engineers.  In addition to reaching the 1,000 point mark, Coleman dished out a career-best five assists on the afternoon.  Adam Lirette (Dover, NH) led all players with eight assists on the day.

The 105 points were the most by the Crimson and Gray since they poured in 106 versus MIT in February of 1994.  The Engineers has now registered 100 or more points three times in seven games which is the most ever in a single season.

Tim Graham (Arlington, MA) was solid for Fitchburg State, notching 10 of his team-high 13 points in the first half.  Brian Torres (Dighton, MA) added 10 points for the Falcons, who entered the game with a 4-0 mark, their best start in 16 years.

WPI will play its final contest before the Christmas holiday when they travel to UMass-Boston for a 7:30pm game on Tuesday.  Fitchburg State returns on the court on Thursday with a 7pm road match-up at Becker.
