Brandeis 53, WPI Women's Basketball 47

Worcester, MA --- Cassidy Dadaos (Healdsburg,
CA) and Lauren Orlando (Peabody, MA) combined for
22 points to help visiting Brandeis defeat WPI 53-47 in non
conference women's basketball action Tuesday evening. The
Judges are now 5-2 while the Engineers dip to 1-4.
WPI opened the game with a slim 14-8 lead with 12:24 left in the
first half, but Brandeis went on a 5-0 run and retook the lead at
the 9:25 mark. The lead changed hands four more times before the
Judges closed out the half with a 7-0 spurt to take a 29-22 lead
into the break.
Brandeis would never relinquish the lead in the second half
allowing WPI to get as close two at 36-34 with 14:37 remaining. The
game was a defensive-minded contest with WPI connecting on 35.8% of
its field goal attempts and Brandeis on 35.2% of its tries from the
field.
The Judges were led by Dadaos, who shared game-high honors with 12
points, while Orlando chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.
Senior Jaime Capra (Old Bridge, NJ) also notched
seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Brandeis got a boast from its bench as their reserves outscored
their WPI counterparts 22-13 on the night. Courtney
Tremblay (Peabody, MA) led the charge of the bench with
eight points, all in the second half, on 3-of-4 shooting from the
floor.
Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA) led the way for the
Engineers scoring 12 points while adding six rebounds. Kate
Maki (Fitchburg, MA) contributed nine points and dished
out five assists while Elle Fontaine (Franklin,
MA) provided a spark off the bench, scoring eight points and
hauling in seven rebounds.
Crimson and Gray point guard Natasha Deschene
(Presque Isle, ME) paced all players with eight rebounds while
forward Serena Dubois (Bangor, ME) swiped a
game-best four steals.
WPI will play its final contest before the Christmas holiday when
they travel to Emerson for a 2pm game on Saturday. Brandeis returns
to action on Thursday at 7pm with a home contest versus Wheaton
.
