New London, CT --- Meghan Pajonas (Bristol, CT)
and Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA) had 30 of WPI's
40 second half points leading the Engineers to a 60-52 win over
Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) game.
Pajonas had 17 of her game-high 24 points in the second half while
Selen, who tied a career-high with 16 points, was five for seven
from three-point range, including four of four in the second
half.
Natalie Moyer (Oklahoma City, OK) hit a
three-pointer with 11:02 left in the game as Coast Guard (11-9,
5-4) led 31-30. However, Pajonas and Selen would score WPI's next
17 points and the Engineers led 47-42 with 3:12 left.
WPI (14-6, 7-2) took the lead for good on back to back baskets by
Pajonas which broke a 39-39 tie and gave the Engineers a 43-39 lead
with 6:55 left.
Coast Guard used a 10-3 spurt to end the first half taking a 24-20
lead into halftime. Pajonas was nine for 13 from the field and
added six rebounds. Michele Perry (Nashua, NH) led
WPI with eight rebounds to go with her 12 points.
Corinne McCormack (Springfield, PA) had a
career-high 16 points to go with her game-high 13 rebounds. Moyer
also had 16 points for Coast Guard.
WPI was red hot in the second half making 13 of 21 shots from the
floor.
