Worcester, MA --- Forward Kim Crayco (Bolton,
CT) notched a pair of goals just over three minutes apart early in
the match to spark nationally ranked Western Connecticut to a 6-0
win over host WPI in non-conference women's soccer action on
Tuesday evening. With the victory, the 17th ranked Colonials (D3Kicks.com) improve
to 2-0 while the Engineers dip to 1-1.
Crayco opened the game with a pair of goals in the 4th and 7th
minutes. Crayco was assisted on the first goal by Amy
Corchard (Monroe, CT) off a corner kick while All-American
Catherine Nathans (New Fairfield, CT) picked up
the first of her two assists on the second tally.
Western Connecticut took a 3-0 advantage into the locker room at
halftime when Victoria Capozziello (Fairfield, CT)
knocked in goal just 24 seconds before the half.
The Colonials would score three more times in the second half on
goals by Angela Wozniak (Ludlow, MA) and reserves
Tina Dias (Shelton, CT), and Lauren
Matthews (Monroe, CT). The bench was a source of
strength for Western Connecticut as they contributed three goals
and three assists on the evening.
Nicole DeCampo (Stoneham, MA) was outstanding
in net for WPI, registering 15 saves on the night. Western
Connecticut goalies Jenna Cappellieri (Stratford,
CT) and Ashley Griffin (Newington, CT) split the
shutout without being called to make a save. For the match,
the Colonials enjoyed a 32-2 advantage in shots.
The Crimson and Gray plays their next game at home versus
Wentworth on Thursday at 7pm. Western Connecticut entertains
Wheaton on Saturday. The match is scheduled for a 3pm start.
