Providence, RI --- The 14th-ranked Rhode Island College
wrestling team looked strong from start to finish en route to a
41-6 win over visiting WPI at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening.
The Anchormen took nine of a possible 10 bouts. Unranked
freshman Brian Hoyt (Sussex, NJ) defeated
fourth-ranked WPI sophomore Carl Anderson
(Billerica, MA), 10-4, in an upset victory at 125. Unranked
sophomore Joe Manley (Wayland, MA) upset
sixth-ranked WPI junior Larry
Loomis (Plainfield, CT), 8-6, in overtime at 174
lbs.
RIC senior Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) raised his
record to 25-2, remaining unbeaten against Div. III opposition,
with a pin over freshman Will Farrell (Franklin,
MA) to cap the night with an exclamation point. Bonora is ranked
No. 1 in the nation at 141 lbs.
Sophomore Mike Martini (Cranston, RI) turned in
a strong effort at 157 lbs., earning a technical fall victory
(19-3) over freshman Chris Spinelli (Lynnfield,
MA) at 6:12.
In upcoming action, both squads will compete at the New England
Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals, hosted by Bridgewater State on
Sunday, Jan. 20.
