Worcester, MA --- Kaileen Selen (Worcester, MA) equaled her career-high with 23 points to lift WPI to a hard-fought 58-50 victory over Clark Saturday afternoon in NEWMAC women's basketball action.  With the win, WPI evens its record at 7-7 and 2-2 in the NEWMAC while Clark falls to 6-8 overall while also leveling its record in the league at 2-2.

Selen, who also swiped a game-best four steals, overcame a slow start by connecting on 7-of-11 shots in the second half, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.  19 of her 23 points came after intermission.

Caitlin Macko (Cromwell, CT) added 11 points for the Engineers while freshman Melissa Kuhn (Stoughton, MA) contributed a career high 7 points, all in the first half. Point guard Natasha Deschene (Presque Isle, ME) and freshman Charlotte McDonnell (Swansea, MA) both grabbed career highs in rebounds with eight apiece as the Engineers.

Jess Lamothe (Westboro, MA) led Clark with 13 points while junior Sara Roderigue (Oakland, ME) added 10 points for the Cougars. Nashoba Regional product, sophomore center Jillian Camilleri (Lancaster, MA) chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.

After not holding a lead until Kuhn buried her second trey of the first half with less than two minutes to play in the opening frame, the Engineers took control of the game in the opening moments of the second half, running off seven unanswered points to claim a 34-25 lead.

The Cougars answered with an 8-2 spurt to pull within 36-33 before the Engineers embarked on a 9-0 run, buoyed by seven points from Selen and Macko, to take its first double-digit lead of the game. The Cougars were never able to get within eight the rest of the contest.

Both squads return to the hardwood at 7pm on Wednesday.  WPI will entertain MIT in a NEWMAC match-up while Clark travels to Maine to face Bowdoin for a non-conference tilt.
