Worcester, MA --- Kristen Murrone (Middletown,
CT) scored the only goal of the game with 8:24 remaining to propel
Clark to a 1-0 shutout over host WPI in NEWMAC women's soccer
action on Saturday morning. With the result, the Cougars
improve to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play. WPI slips
to 5-6 on the year and 0-2 in NEWMAC play.
Murrone received a pass from Julie Rizzo
(Westboro, MA) inside the 18-yard box. She proceeded to
dribble past the WPI goalie but had her initial shot blocked by WPI
back Kat Kulzer (Troy, NY). Murrone
collected her own rebound and deposited the ball in the net for her
second tally of the season.
Prior to Murrone's goal, the match was a tightly-contested
defensive affair with few clear scoring opportunities. On the
day, Clark enjoyed a 13-8 advantage in shots while taking all five
of the game's corner kicks.
Joanna Clark (Windham, ME) made five saves en
route to posting her fifth shutout of the season for the
Cougars. Abaigeal Caras (Essex, CT) turned
away seven shots in net for the Engineers.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday with conference
matches. WPI will travel to Wheaton for a 4:00pm game while
Clark hosts Springfield at 6:30pm.
