Gorham, ME --- WPI's Larry Loomis (Plainfield,
CT) dropped a pair of close decisions on Sunday and finished in
sixth place in the 174-pound weight class at the New England
Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships hosted by Southern
Maine. Despite the losses, Loomis picks up All-New England
honors for the second straight year.
On Saturday, Lommis won twice, including a pin. The junior
captain overcame injuries to post a 12-7 record.
Other highlights on the weekend for the Crimson and
Gray included sophomore 125-pounder Carl
Anderson (Billerica, MA) who wrestled his way to a 2-2
record and freshman Tyler Howe (Danbury, CT)
registered a 1-2 record while picking up a pin at 157 pounds.
Other WPI participants included Jeff Root
(Milford, CT) at 133, Dennis Sullivan (Poughquag,
NY) at 141 pounds, Matt Wainwright (North
Attleboro, MA) at 149, Scott Guzman (Acton, ME) at
184, John Gikas (North Andover, MA) at 197, and
Anthony Corbo (Port Washington, NY) at
heavyweight.
Wrestling closes out the 2007-2008 season with a 6-17 record and
a 15th place finish in the NEWA championships.
